This small village, in the heart of the French Gâtinais Regional Nature Park, enjoyed a period of great fame in the
1960s, when Claude François chose the local mill as his main residence. The village today
The grave of the famous singer can be found in the village cemetery.
In 1970, the Louvetière manor house in Dannemois was bought by the sculptors Niki de Saint-Phalle (creator of the Nanas) and Jean
Tinguely (creator of the Cyclop de Milly-la-Forêt).
In addition, Jean Cocteau, a central figure in the Parisian artistic avant-garde of the 20th century, often retreated to his house in Milly-la-Forêt.
Milly-la-Forêt, which he bought with Jean Marais in 1947. He wanted to be buried in the Chapelle St-Blaise-des-Simples, which he had decorated.
Where he wished to be buried after his death.
The Château de Courances, built between 1622 and 1630, has undergone several transformations. Abandoned in the 19th century
it was restored in 1872 by Baron Samuel de Haber, who added a horseshoe staircase inspired by the one in the
Fontainebleau. During the Second World War, it was occupied by the Germans before becoming an American military camp.
Then it became the residence of Field Marshal Montgomery, who was stationed at Fontainebleau at the time. It was only after all this that
that it came back into the hands of the de Ganay family.
