What's Kennington famous for?

Charlie Chaplin spent much of his youth living on the Kennington Road, moving from place to place with his parents as they gradually became poorer. But he became inspired to change his life by looking in on the clientele at well-to-do local establishments.

He died leaving a fortune of £100 million (around £0.5 billion in today's money) after becoming one of Hollywood's highest paid actors in the world.

Today, Kennington is home to plenty of young professionals and families, alongside quite a few MPs and media types.

Famous for the legendary Oval Cricket Ground, which hosts international test matches throughout the season, Kennington is also where you'll find the brilliant Imperial War Museum.

Founded during the First World War in 1917, the museum was formed as a record of the toil and sacrifices made by those who had served in the war.

Today, Kennington has a wonderfully diverse dining scene, ranging from classic British pub fare to Iranian, Italian, Mexican and more.

Kennington also boasts a thriving nightlife scene, with venues like Cable Café and the Tommyfield consistently drawing crowds, among the many excellent pubs, bars and restaurants in the area.

Vauxhall tube station, on the Victoria line, is also nearby for fast transport into Oxford Circus and beyond.
