Located on the prestigious Quay Lane in Brading, this detached period residence, dating back to around 1860, combines historic charm with generous space and versatility. Offered chain free, the property is arranged as a substantial six-bedroom home with the added benefit of two linked apartments, creating potential for income generation or flexible multi-generational living.
The main house welcomes with a striking stone porch leading into an elegant hallway, where high ceilings, a leaded window, and exposed floorboards immediately convey its period character. Throughout, original features such as ornate radiators, Victorian tiles, feature fireplaces, and wood panelling enhance its historic appeal. Living spaces are light and inviting. The spacious lounge, complete with a large bay window and log-burning stove, connects to a formal dining room and a bright sunroom overlooking the gardens.
The well-equipped kitchen serves as the heart of the home, offering a range cooker, built-in appliances, and a central island ideal for family life and entertaining.
Upstairs, large bedrooms are full of charm and natural light. The principal suite includes a Jack and Jill en-suite, while other rooms serve as a library and home office. The top floor features a unique turret balcony with panoramic countryside views, providing a private spot for relaxation.
The first-floor apartment comprises a kitchen/living area, a characterful bedroom with exposed stonework, and an en-suite bathroom. The ground-floor integral apartment has its own entrance and includes a kitchen/diner, lounge, en-suite bedroom, and family bathroom — perfect for guests, relatives, or potential holiday letting (subject to permissions).
Outside, wrap-around mature gardens offer privacy, colour, and seasonal beauty. Features include established planting, a large greenhouse, and a gated driveway providing ample parking.
What the Owner says:
We fell in love with this property the moment we set eyes on it in 2015. Visitors often comment that it is a hidden gem, tucked away in the historic town of Brading. Three generations of our family have enjoyed living here, where we can be together but have our own private space. Originally, we created one apartment for an elderly relative and one for our guests or as holiday accommodation. We often fill the house with friends and family for traditional Christmas celebrations and other important occasions.
Brading has good amenities with a wonderful convenience store, shops, pubs, eateries and a vibrant community centre. It is well connected by the Island train and bus routes to Ryde, Newport and Shanklin. Yet it is right on the edge of countryside with Brading Downs and Brading Marshes on the doorstep.
We have spent considerable time improving and renovating parts of the property but hope we have kept all our renovations in keeping with the period nature of the house. We have enjoyed every minute of living here, where we participate in the thriving and friendly local community. We plan to stay in touch, however it is now time to move on and give other people the pleasure of living in our much loved house.
