Unst, the ultimate destination for those with adventure in their soul. Unst is the most northerly inhabited island in the United Kingdom, and one of the most unique islands in Europe. Boasting scenic beauty, rich history, heritage and traditions alongside a mystical charisma, the island is far from a disappointment. One being the writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, who signed the visitors’ book at Muckle Flugga Lighthouse on 18th June 1869. The map he used in his novel “Treasure Island” bears a marked resemblance to Unst. It is indeed an island of treasure. Unst is thought to be the first foot-fall of Vikings in the North Atlantic. There are the remains of at least 60 longhouses, the highest density of rural Viking sites anywhere, including Scandinavia. The traveller will feel richer having visited Unst, Britain’s most northerly island.
