    The Bath House, formerly the Cheshire Street Baths, was constructed in 1899 and was the first building to be completed under the Baths and Washhouses Act of the same year. Two carved stone arches - one with signs for the women’s baths, the other for the men’s - remain today, with intricate frieze detailing. The building retains a strong Victorian character, with its red-brick exterior and six-over-six sash windows.

    The Tour

    The Area

    Set in Bethnal Green, The Bath House is well-placed for exploring east London. Local stalwarts like E Pellicci are nearby, along with newer openings like Cave Cuvee. There are plenty of wonderful pubs within 10 minutes’ walk from the apartment, including The King's Arms and The Carpenter’s Arms.

    Its position brings Shoreditch, Brick Lane and the City into easy reach, along with Redchurch Street. Here, favourites include an outpost of Jolene, coffee shop Allpress and Labour and Wait. Just beyond is Arnold Circus, with Leila’s, Rochelle Canteen and Blue Mountain School.

    Whitechapel, with its brilliant gallery, is a short walk south, while Columbia Road and Cambridge Heath are to the north. The latter two are home to the likes of Brawn, Ombra and Campania.

    There are also plenty of green spaces nearby. Weaver’s Fields is minutes away on foot, as is Spitalfields City Farm. Slightly further away, but still easily reached, are Haggerston Park, the Regent’s Canal and its towpath, Victoria Park Market and London Fields, with its heated lido.

    For travel beyond the immediate vicinity, Bethnal Green Overground (Weaver line) and Underground (Central line) are seven and 15 minutes away, respectively. Whitechapel station runs the Elizabeth, District and Hammersmith and City lines, along with the Windrush Overground line, and can be reached in 12 minutes. There are also plenty of bus routes in the local area.
