Brickworks Says
With exquisite features and impressive proportions, period appeal takes centre stage in this one-bedroom flat on a leafy street in Hackney Downs. Although the flat is a slice of Georgian elegance, the styling is contemporary and utterly on point. Vast windows allow natural light to flood the space, while high ceilings provide an architectural canvas for the intricate cornicing and ceiling roses that draw your eyes upward.
The flat is not only a visual delight, but it is also hugely practical. The joinery in the living area rises to lofty heights, providing convenient storage while enhancing the aesthetics, and having a utility area in the flat is a real treat. The spacious bedroom is more than capable of accommodating a home workspace, while the characterful kitchen feels very much part of the party, with a breakfast bar for mingling. The majestic, fully functional fireplace looks right at home in the living room––a testament to the flat's grand scale while providing a glorious centrepiece for cosy nights.
Amhurst Road is part of one of the most vibrant districts in East London. You'll never be far from the simple pleasures of life, including mouth-watering bakeries and a dizzying choice of neighbourhood pubs. If you're in the mood, go to town at Michelin-starred Casa Fofo, or keep it low-key (and delicious) at brunch spot Down to Earth, both are seconds away on foot. Spend lazy days lounging in London Fields or meandering the River Lee, or make the most of the brilliant travel connections to explore far and wide.
The Owners Say
This flat, which I renovated with a designer, has been a haven for me. The open-plan living area makes the ideal entertaining space and has been the home of many fun dinner parties over the years.
The sun streams through the south-facing garden, bathing the flat with a huge amount of natural light, and in the winter, the working fireplace is a real bonus. It is super well-connected and has multiple award-winning restaurants, bakeries, and pubs within walking distance, as well as yards of green space all around.
I shall miss it and its unique period features very much.
