Description
Set on an elevated plot, this home takes full advantage of panoramic views across its meticulously landscaped gardens and is tucked away behind a gated, gravel driveway, offering both privacy and convenience.
A welcoming entrance hall leads into a traditional-style kitchen, complete with a central island, and an Aga. Integrated appliances and a combination microwave/oven provide modern convenience, while the adjoining utility room offers further storage and access to the large double garage. The dining room, bathed in natural light, boasts a charming bay window that frames views of the garden, while the elegant living room boasts another bay window and a fireplace - perfect for cosy evenings. The spacious sitting room is ideal for entertaining, with large patio doors opening onto the garden and a beautiful inglenook fireplace. Just off this room is a separate study, offering a peaceful home office space which looks out to the rear garden views. A standout feature of the ground floor is the stunning garden room, complete with full height windows and lantern roof providing a bright, tranquil space that connects effortlessly with the outdoors.
Upstairs, a generous landing leads to five well proportioned double bedrooms. The principal bedroom enjoys dual-aspect views, a walk in wardrobe, and a large en-suite with a bath and separate shower. Two further bedrooms also benefit from en-suite bathrooms, while the remaining bedrooms are served by a family bathroom.
Outside, the gardens are beautifully designed and full of character. A raised patio leads to two tiers of lawn surrounded by mature plants, a large pond, and a smaller pond. Two brick-built storage sheds and a built-in BBQ area add further practicality.
The detached summerhouse is a true highlight—featuring bi-fold doors, oak joinery and a chimney with open fire. A hidden sunken area, which is currently boarded over, offers the ideal spot for a hot tub, and offering a WC with fitted plumbing for a shower.
This is a home that effortlessly blends indoor comfort with outdoor living—offering peace, space, and timeless appeal, just moments from local amenities and major transport links.

Sellers Story
We bought Ivy Cottage in 1976 when we had not long started a family and wanted somewhere in a country location, close to my wife’s parents & family in neighbouring Wood End, with the promise of good car access around the Midlands (the M42 route had been agreed but not yet built), train and flight options beyond, all important for my work at that time.
Ivy Cottage therefore became a happy family home for us and for our 3 children, now all married and with families of their own. While our 2 daughters and their immediate family are still reasonably local, our son is in Hampshire. So, we feel it is time that the house became a family home once more, to be enjoyed as we developed it to enjoy!
While our expectations have been more than fulfilled (our 48 years in Freasley have been extremely happy ones, making good friends within the village along the way) we recognise that advancing years make the ‘downsizing’ journey inevitable. However, we do so in good heart with so many happy memories.
We have been asked what our favourite room is. I can honestly say I don’t know. We find each comes into its own, depending on the time of day. Kitchen diner for the Spring sunshine, Garden Room throughout the day. Not forgetting the formal dining room for long family lunches, sitting room for TV time and winter fireside evenings. Open log fire with all the family in the formal lounge at Christmas, with the turkey cooked overnight in the Aga, drinks in the garden room and 14 of us sitting down to eat before moving to the main lounge for the Queen’s speech! It is also where the best of the sunset is found year-round – shining as it does through the Patio windows at the end of the day. Summer barbecues on patio before moving to the crem (our family nickname for the Summerhouse on account of the chimney!) to listen to records and warm up next to the fire when the sun went down.
Memorable events, there have been so many. Freasley Hall has been the focus for many. Be it cricket matches (“Freasley versus the Rest of the World” was an annual fixture at one time), raising funds for this and that – in our time mostly for the Mission Church which sadly we couldn’t save or celebrating national occasions – usually Royal weddings and anniversaries. All provided the reason (or excuse) for the village to get together with friends for a party!
Most enjoyment has been from family events at Ivy Cottage, whether for special birthdays or celebrations as a family. Or indeed creating our own Glastonbury Weekend Party centred around the Summerhouse, to coincide with the real thing!
Roads are of course busier than when we first moved here of course but I think what I will miss the most is driving into the village (well, hamlet really!) and the immediate sense of peace which descends, no matter what stresses the working day may have brought! I think it is the layout of Freasley which makes this possible. Houses in the main are scattered around a generous Common, with plenty of mature trees giving rise to the vibrant greens at Springtime and the glorious colours of Autumn. Having a “No Through Road” helps of course, since the only traffic is to house or farm. And yet the scale of Freasley makes visiting our neighbours on foot a practical proposition at almost any age and without doubt all adds to the strong feel of community we all have and share!
