Are you up for a bit of a project? This home is looking for someone to breathe fresh life into this village property.
A historic Victorian home which is bursting with character from sash windows with original shutters, ornate cornices to high ceilings, fireplaces and original floors. As you open the arched wooden door into the entrance vestibule, you start to feel like you are stepping into a piece of history. Stepping into the hall, you won't fail to notice the wooden parquet floor, which extends through into the dining room and kitchen. Firstly though, step left into the largest of living rooms (30ft) which has been opened up from the 2 original rooms at some point. As a result, you have this superb space with shutters on the large sash windows and recesses around the 2 chimney breasts. The high ceilings are fringed with ornate cornicing and there is an open fireplace at the garden end of the room. There is potential to replace a wall and subdivide the room again to create an additional room downstairs which could be used as a 4th bedroom or playroom. There is a side door out onto the garden and a further door giving access back into the kitchen.
On the other side of the hall is the spacious dining room. Again, two sash windows with shutters flood the room with light, and high ceilings with cornicing maintain that same original period charm. This room also has an open fireplace which could potentially be brought back into use. There is a great deal of space where you can entertain family and friends easily. A true Christmas dining room but also great at any time of the year! The kitchen is accessed both from the dining room and the living room, and is waiting for someone to re create that lovely country house vibe. The central fireplace would make a stand out feature within a new design. Two large sash windows overlook the garden and amongst other updating, the boiler has only recently been replaced, which is a real bonus. A feature arched door opens up onto the garden and on the opposite side of the room is the real surprise; a door to the cellar ! A few wooden steps down and you'll find a space which you could use for storage, or even re purpose and improve as a utility or gym area. Brush away the cobwebs and give this area a new lease of life!
Upstairs 3 excellent double bedrooms await. The largest of which is set overlooking the garden to the rear and conveniently situated next to the huge bathroom. This gives you a perfect option to subdivide the bathroom and create an ensuite shower room to the main bedroom. All rooms enjoy really high ceilings, sash windows and storage cupboards are found in bedroom 2 and the bathroom.
Outside there is a pretty and surprisingly private feeling garden. Laid mostly to lawn, there is also a good sized patio, bluebells popping up and mature shrubs and trees. Set towards the rear is a stone built building, with tiled roof. Currently this is subdivided into 3 separate storage areas and a 4th open, but covered section. I would imagine this would make an excellent art studio, workshop, or work from home space. There is even more garden behind the building where a flowering cherry tree and further lawn create an excellent secret garden. Alternatively, this space would also be excellent for vegetable growing. A side gate next to the house, brings you back to the front where there are small gravel sections, stone wall, front gate and mature hedges screening the property from the road.
Agents note: Parking is not available at this property and should be a consideration for potential buyers. There are roads nearby where you can park, but there would be a walk to the property itself. There is a possibility to rent a garage behind Vine Court (subject to availability. Please ask the agent for details)
Enjoy the convenience of village living with a plethora of local amenities within walking distance, including shops, Cafe's, a sought after school, doctors surgery, chemist and recreational facilities including a large village hall, bowls club, playing fields and park. Enjoy many of the village community activities throughout the year from May Fetes through to the annual Box rocks charity music event at The Queens Head. An essential and arguably one of the best Indian restaurants for miles is found at The Bear and with a strong arts and music scene, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. In addition there are miles of countryside walks, cycle ways and woods to walk the dog or get some fresh air with the kids. The Georgian city of Bath is located just 6 miles away and regular bus services run through the village to connect you very easily. In addition in the other direction are Corsham and Chippenham where a mainline rail connection will take you to London Paddington in just over an hour. Road access to the M4 is easy via J17 or J18 at Bath depending on your onward direction. From a convenience perspective coupled with a local village setting, I really am struggling to find fault with Box village.
