Cromer is a hamlet in the civil parish of Ardeley, it is noteworthy for possessing Hertfordshire's sole surviving post mill. There infant and junior schools in the neighbouring villages of Weston, Ardeley and Walkern and secondary schools in nearby Stevenage and Baldock.
