A truly beautiful Grade II listed 17th Century historical home, elegantly presented throughout and located in arguably one of the best positions in the much sought-after Strand of Topsham.
Description
Located in Topsham’s most premiere address, Stone House is a most interesting and beautifully presented Grade II listed 17th Century quayside home of rich shipping history with unrivalled views of the River Exe estuary.
This elegant home begins with its approach along The Strand and its rich history of Dutch Gables, former shipping ports and breath taking views over the River.
As you enter through iron gates into the pretty cottage gardens to the front and through the front door to the ground floor offering a dining room, sitting room with beams and a window seat from which to take in the views, kitchen, and internal access to the garage and utility room.
The accommodation is set over four floors and all principal rooms enjoy the same outstanding views over the quayside, River Exe estuary and Haldon Hills countryside beyond. On the first floor there is a formal drawing room with dual aspect and river views to the front, a family bathroom and bedroom.
The second and third floors offer three further double bedrooms, one of which is the principal bedroom suite with ensuite located on the second floor whereby a door gives access out onto Monmouth Hill. There is a further family shower room located on the third floor.
The beautiful cottage garden sits to the front of the property, accessed via a gated entrance from The Strands waterfront quayside, well stocked with shrubs and plants including the striking Agapanthus also know as The Lily of The Nile. A rare find for Topsham’s period properties, there is an integral garage which would support a small car and can be accessed internally.
Location
Topsham has been a port since the 13th Century and the tidal estuary of the Exe is not only famous for sailing and boating but also as a natural haven for birds and wildlife with a number of rspb nature reserves and bird hides nearby.
Set on the Strand, one of Devon's most sought after roads, Stone House is within level walking distance of an excellent range of amenities, including independent shops, pubs and restaurants, a school, outdoor swimming pool and a bowling and sailing club; all the necessities for a thriving local community. There is also train station, providing regular trains into Exeter Central, Exeter St David’s Stations and down to Exmouth.
The cathedral city of Exeter is within approximately four miles and offers a wide range of state and independent schools, shopping and leisure facilities, together with good communication links, including a main line rail link to London Paddington, London Waterloo and Exmouth, access to the M5 Motorway and Exeter International Airport.
The surrounding area provides ample opportunity for leisure activities, including Darts Farm on the outskirts of Topsham, superb cycle tracks and The Exeter Golf and Country Club, all within a short drive.
