2 Old Somerton Hotel, as the name suggests, forms part of the historic former Somerton Hotel on arguably the town’s most desirable location - New Street. With all the amenities the ancient town has to offer nearby; simultaneously being a quiet road, New Street is ideally situated. The property itself boasts an interior which has been sympathetically refurbished, retaining the character feel.

The property is accessed from the front through a timber door leading into an entrance porch - the original hotel entrance - and benefits from a large coat cupboard. Glazed door lead into a further entrance hallway which is laid to tiles and provides access to the rear of the property, in addition to hosting a cloakroom with WC and basin within vanity unit. Further bespoke glazed double doors lead through into the sitting/dining room; wonderfully light and airy with a pair of sash windows to the front with deep window benches. The room features half-panelled walls and a highly unique stone fireplace with tiled hearth and wood-burner in situ, as well as a glass trapdoor leading down stone steps into a cellar (boarded off), currently used as a storage/display area. The rear half of the room hosts ample space for a large dining table before leading through to the kitchen, which is fitted to a high standard with a comprehensive range of base units with quartz worktops, large gas-fired Rangemaster with 6-ring hob, glass splashback and chimney hood over, double ceramic Belfast sink, integrated dishwasher as well as space for a double fridge-freezer. The kitchen also features a large central island with solid wood worktop and a breakfast bar. In one corner of the kitchen is a very handy utility, with space and plumbing for a washing machine and tumble-dryer, units with solid wood worktops, and sink.

From the dining area, an attractive, hand-carved staircase rises to the first floor, which enjoys character features in the form of small ceiling beams and recessed shelving. Three bedrooms are accessible from the landing, all of which are large doubles and featuring well-appointed en-suites. The master benefits from a large wardrobe and airing cupboard whilst the other two bedrooms are situated at the front of the house and feature window seats. Bedroom 3 enjoys a similar en-suite to the master, with shower cubicle, WC, hand basin within vanity unit and towel rail, whilst Bed 2’s ensuite features a freestanding bath in place of a shower. The whole of upstairs, as with the remainder of the property, enjoys a light and airy aspect due to high ceilings and a fresh, neutral décor.
Outside

2 Old Somerton Hotel enjoys a highly private and low maintenance courtyard garden, laid mostly to a combination of gravel and patio. The garden is enclosed by the attractive Lias stone walls of the old hotel and a fence with gated access to the parking area (two spaces), creating a peaceful setting to enjoy. A door leads into the boiler room where the gas fired boiler is located, with a large amount of storage space available. A further small log store/shed is located near the rear gate.

New Street is arguably Somerton’s most desirable location; a quiet road just off the heart of Somerton’s well-equipped centre. This historic town is the ancient capital of Wessex and boats an attractive centre based around the Market Place. Somerton offers a fine level of amenities, with numerous independent retailers and a selection of cafés, coffee shops and public houses. The town also offers a supermarket, bank, library, doctors’ and dentists’ surgeries, newly opened primary school, numerous shops and a commercial/ industrial trading estate with a variety of handy trade points.
Secondary schooling is offered at nearby Huish Episcopi, with adjoining sixth form and leisure centre with facilities for all ages. There are further collages in both Yeovil and Street - also the home of Millfield School and Clarks Village. The county town of Taunton lies 16 miles to the west, whilst other larger centres of Yeovil, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Wincanton and Shepton Mallet are all within a half hours’ drive. Mainline train stations are offered in nearby Castle Cary (Paddington) and Yeovil (Waterloo) whilst road communications are well catered for via the A303 and M5.
