About this property

This four-bedroom townhouse stands tall at the end of modernist terrace in leafy Twickenham. Set over three storeys, it articulates some of the movement's most celebrated hallmarks: Clean architectural lines are met with expansive glazing that captures views of the surrounding greenery. There is a large driveway and a wonderful back garden overlooking the picturesque River Crane.

    The Tour

The house cuts a compelling profile at the end of a short terraced block; its confident modernist form stands out amid the grand Arts and Crafts and Edwardian homes along Cole Park Road. A bricked driveway lies in front, lined with neat beds and sculptural plants.

The front door opens into a generous entrance lobby. Double doors reveal a spacious living room and dining area. A more recent addition to the house, the bright room has dual-aspect light from sliding glass doors to the front and rear gardens. Crisp white walls and wide engineered oak floorboards run throughout the ground floor.

A wide opening from at the rear of the plan reveals the kitchen. This can also be entered from the hallway, creating a wonderful sense of flow and circularity to the ground floor. The u-shaped kitchen has sliding windows and some exposed brickwork. Integrated appliances include double Samsung ovens one of which has a microwave, a dishwasher and Neff induction hob.

From the hallway is a large utility and walk-in pantry, set in a portion of what was once the garage. There is also a separate WC on this level.

A carpeted staircase ascends to two airy bedrooms on the first floor; the bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower, WC and basin.

A second staircase leads to the top floor, where there are two further bedrooms and family bathroom. The principal bedroom has sliding doors on to a wonderful balcony with garden and river views. The landing that connects them has two convenient and generous storage cupboards.

    Outdoor Space

The terraced garden to the rear is surrounded by a lush mature planting scheme. The slow-flowing Crane River runs along the end of the garden; here, a small, terraced area constructed directly on the river is a brilliant spot to enjoy the varied wildlife including kingfishers, herons, coots, ducks and graceful swans.

The bricked driveway at the front of the house provides space for four cars. The external garage space has been repurposed for handy bike storage.

    The Area

Set within the Cole Park Conservation Area, Cole Park Road abuts the Crane River and Moor Mead Park, a beautiful green corridor lined with mature trees.

Twickenham has a wealth of independent shops as well as familiar favourites, including a branch of Waitrose. The street is also close to St Margaret’s, a beautiful neighbourhood with its own distinctive village feel. The high street, bordered by independent shops and cafés, leads down towards leafy Marble Hill Park on the banks of the Thames. Favourite haunts include Wylie's Coffee, Harris + Hoole, Le Salon Privé, The Secret Wardrobe, St Margaret’s Wines, and Armstrong’s butchers.

Marble Hill is an English Heritage-run house and parkland on the banks of the river. A Georgian villa, it is now operates as a museum, and the parkland is home to two cafés and the striking octagonal Orleans House Gallery.

Well-regarded local schools include St Mary's CofE Primary School and Orleans Park Secondary.

Twickenham Station is a eight-minute walk from the house and offers fast trains into central London as well as London Underground (District line) services. St Margaret’s station is a 10-minute walk away and runs mainline services into London Waterloo in 30 minutes. Heathrow Airport can be reached in under 20 minutes by car.
