About this property
This mid-century apartment forms part of Chelsea's Cremorne Estate, built in 1955 to a design by Armstrong and MacManus. Its current owners have thoroughly renovated the space, opening it up with a contemporary palette and considered materials. The King's Road is a short walk away, as are Lots Road, Cheyne Walk and the Thames Path.
The Tour
Sited on the first floor of Apollo House, the apartment is accessed from a communal balcony. Each room fans out from a central hallway and is grounded with engineered parquet flooring that lends a curated cohesion.
On one side is the contemporary kitchen, which has been opened up at one end to maximise light. A crisp palette of whites with herringbone-arranged wall tiles characterises the space, which is complete with integrated appliances including an electric Smeg oven, integrated fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Plywood open shelving runs the length of one wall – the perfect spot for on-hand storage jars and spices.
The living room has a wall of glazing that overlooks the communal gardens to the front of the building. Its south-facing orientation ensures that light floods in throughout the day. Bespoke ply storage units have been built along one side, while a pop of green paint behind neat bench seating along another wall adds a playful feel. Storage has been well considered across the apartment, with a handy space for double-stacked white goods in the hall.
Communal garden views continue in the bedroom, which has its own wall of south-facing glazing. A splash of red denotes the headboard in an otherwise neutral design, where light bounces off the walls and ceiling.
Just outside the bedroom is the bathroom, which has hexagonal floor tiles from Fired Earth and a walk-in shower. A large cupboard ensures plenty of storage and a repurposed mid-century vanity is tucked beneath the window.
Outdoor Space
The apartment overlooks well-maintained communal gardens to the front and the branches of a mature weeping willow tree at the rear. The current owners have access to a storage unit in the en-bloc garages, which is not demised to them; more information is available on request.
The Area
Apollo House is wonderfully positioned between the 200-acre Battersea Park and The Grade i-listed Brompton Cemetery, which is one of London’s Magnificent Seven Cemeteries and is managed by The Royal Parks. 185 miles of the Thames River path stretches through the city and is reachable in five minutes on foot.
The King's Road – historically synonymous with cutting edge fashion – has a variety of boutique shops and restaurants, including Medlar for modern French cuisine, or The Jam for a more low-key pizza. There is an Everyman cinema, an Italian delicatessen, a Waitrose and the Pig’s Ear is a popular pub, slightly tucked away, also serving food.
Lots Road is renowned for its antiques and the Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour – the home of many leading global interior design showrooms – is also a short walk away. The Lots Road Powerhouse development is nearby as well as other popular pubs such as the Chelsea Ram. Stamford football stadium – the home of Chelsea fc – is around the corner in Fulham.
Park Walk Primary and Christ Church are two well reputed primary schools in the area, along with Chelsea Academy at secondary level.
There are plenty of bus routes into central London in the immediate vicinity. Imperial Wharf station is a 15-minute walk for Overground services and Sloane Square is a 20-minute walk or short bus journey for District line services. Alternative tube routes are accessed from Fulham Broadway station, also a 20-minute walk away. Residents are eligible for a coveted Chelsea parking permit (covering the whole borough) as well as an estate parking permit.
