Cropredy’s name comes from the old English words of Cropp (a hill) and Ridig (small stream) the village has Anglo Saxon origins and was recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book. In 1644 Cropredy Bridge was the scene of a major battle in the English Civil War. During building works at Cromwell Cottage two cannonballs were found from this period.
