Location
Upper Hartfield is a small hamlet, on a bus route from East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells, of character dwellings standing close to the Ashdown Forest. The village centre of Hartfield itself lies within three-quarters of a mile to the east, with its local store, modern health centre, Parish Church and associated primary school, period Inn.
There are bus stops within 100 yards of the house, running through a number of the outlying villages to the towns of Tunbridge Wells (9.4 miles) and East Grinstead (7 miles) both of which provide further shopping, leisure amenities and rail services to various London Stations. The area is well represented for both state and private schools within a 15 mile radius, including a number of primary schools, Beacon upper school, Brambletye, Greenfields, Michael Hall and Holmewood House.
There are a number of well respected Hotels locally, Ashdown Park, Gravetye Manor, Alexander House, together with popular pubs including The Dorset Arms, The Hatch, The Anchor and The Gallipot all of which are within three miles.
The area is also well known for its association with former resident A A Milne, writer of the Winnie The Pooh stories which were inspired by the nearby Ashdown Forest with its 6,400 acres of heath and woodland for riding (by permit) and walking.
