Local Area
Ickham is a picturesque village on the outskirts of Canterbury. The village has an excellent Pub/Restaurant, The Duke William, just a two minute walk away (where Ickham residents can get a 15% discount card!) and a beautiful church. There is another great pub, The Rose Inn, in Wickhambreaux a 15 minute walk away. The tranquil tor Ayurvedic Spa is a 5 minute walk away.
Ickham was voted one of the best places to live in Kent in 2024 by Muddy Steletoes. Kent live reported:
It sounds almost too good to be true: No wonder this stunning medieval village on the bank of the Little Stour has joined the coveted list of 'Kent's top 10 best places to live' by Muddy Stilettos. The small rural village of Ickham made the ranks for its idyllic countryside setting, great location and for being a 'gastro-pub heaven'. It also has a little-known spa retreat. Ickham might be very small, with a population of under 500, but with a fascinating church, thatched cottages and beautiful countryside, it has more than earned its place in the 2024 list for Kent, announced this week. And it is just under six miles from Canterbury, and seven miles from Sandwich, so you have the best of city and coastal days out. The village has a great pub, The Duke William, owned by The Pickled Egg Company. Locals and visitors love its cosy interior in the colder months.
Neighbouring Wickhambreaux has a highly regarded primary school, with an Ofted Outstanding rating. There is a further primary school in Littlebourne and many good quality secondary schools, both state and private, including The Kings School, Simon Langton Grammar, Barton Court Grammar and St Edmonds, within easy reach.
Canterbury provides a broad range of shopping and leisure facilities.
The nearby villages of Littlebourne and Wingham offer day-to-day amenities, such as village shop, newsagent and Post Office.
There are various activities in Ickham Village Hall, such as Pilates, Keep-fit, Yoga, Senior's Lunch, Scottish Country Dancing and Tai Chi (which takes place outside on the village green during the Spring and Summer).
There are numerous country walks just seconds from the doorstep, with footpaths leading to Littlebourne, Wingham, Wickhambreaux and Seaton Lakes.
There are excellent road and rail links with access to the A2 at Bridge and the High Speed service to London St Pancras from Canterbury West taking just under an hour. There are also train stations at Bekesbourne (2.3miles) and Adisham (2.6miles) and Canterbury East. The bus stops at the end of the courtyard for buses to Littlebourne and Canterbury in one direction and Westwood Cross Shopping Centre and Broadstairs in the other direction. The area has good access to the Continent, via road or rail and this cottage with its low maintenance garden together with courtyard privacy and security, is a perfect 'lock-up and leave' house for those with a second home in Europe or those looking for a weekend retreat, as well as being a great family home.
