The first record of Mr. John Potter appeared on 18th December 1810, and was an Auction sale at the Crown Inn in Market Square Chesham at 2.00pm, as illustrated. Records indicate that by the 1820s Mr. John Potter had formed a partnership with Mr. William Ford, a Millwright, again as illustrated on a poster for an Auction sale in July 1821 and later years. By the 1860s the Company had become Ford Son & Andrews, the Partners being William Ford Jnr and William Andrews, a local Builder. The present day Potter & Ford reinstated the name in 1985 and last year celebrated its 25th anniversary. Formerly occupying The Gatehouse, which had connections with the original Potter & Ford in the 1800s, in October 2004 they moved to their present premise, 112 High Street and they then also took occupation of the first floor of 110 High Street in order to accommodate their residential lettings team.
